Interesting... I always thought it was called Miniature-Human Herding. Maybe that explains my trouble with trying to rationalize with them. Now I understand.
I always saw it this way - if you put a box of gerbils down in a room, they would scatter in every direction. No matter what you said or did - they just keep on bouncing off the walls, runnning, and playing all around you. THAT was my life...especially when I was baby sitting my nephews. I had a house full of little boys running loose like gerbils.
It gets better...but then they turn into a teen! Now I help w/ the HS band...a whole different kind of gerbil herding! And the gerbils are much bigger than me!
I happen to have the best job in the world.
